A Brief History of The Maryland Society of Pathologists
The Maryland Society of Pathologists (MSP) started back in 2007, when a small group of pathologists in Maryland, particularly those at Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland, decided to create a professional organization to bring their community together. The group initially focused on education, holding annual meetings where pathologists could discuss new discoveries and techniques in the field.
MSP had grown and began taking on a more active role in shaping the healthcare landscape in Maryland. During these years, MSP’s meetings became the go-to events for Maryland pathologists to network, learn, and stay updated on the latest developments.
Today, the Maryland Society of Pathologists remains an important part of the medical community, continuing to support its members through advocacy, education, and professional development. They focus on modern challenges, like digital technology in pathology and artificial intelligence, while still upholding the values that have guided the organization supporting Maryland’s pathologists and advancing the field of pathology for better patient care.
In 2024, they launched a website, started offering online educational resources, and introduced a mentorship program to help younger pathologists. They invited the DC pathologists to be full members and changed the name of the society to “Maryland & DC Society of Pathologists”
